Co-operative Education

Students...

  • Earn grade 11 or grade 12 credits in a workplace setting while exploring a career and/or experience of their choice.
  • Develop employability skills and experience hands-on learning
  • Can lead to part-time and/or summer employment
  • Can explore one of 150+ skilled trades and/or jump start their apprenticeship training (Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program)

How Do Students Enroll in Co-op?

You will need to select Co-op when completing course selection.

  1. Select Co-op in My Pathway Planner (2 credit/half day or 4 credit/full day).
  2. You will have a co-op placed in your timetable for next year in semester 1 or 2. If you selected 2 credit/half day co-op, it will be in periods 1 and 2 (morning) or periods 4 and 5 (afternoon).
  3. The Co-op department will want to know what type of experience/placement you are looking for.  The Co-op department will contact you closer to the start of your Co-op course for this information, likely throgh your GAPPS email.
  4. The first few weeks of Co-op is in-class as you learn about workplace safety and work with your Co-op teacher to secure a placement.  Remember, you can secure your own Co-op placement too!
