Course selections open on February 12. Should students submit their courses as soon as possible to increase their chances of getting the course they want?
All students who submit their course selections by the deadline have an equal chance of receiving their elective courses. We do suggest students submit their selections on My Pathway Planner the day before the deadline at the latest to avoid high website traffic and possible glitches.
What if students are not ready to select their courses? Semester 2 has just started!
All students have an opportunity at the end of March to review and resubmit their course selections without penalty. Submitted course selections are emailed to students and their parents/guardians for review; we call this Course Verification. We ask students to make their most informed decisions for course selection in February, connect with caring adults and Guidance throughout March, and make any final revisions at the time of Course Verification. Instructions for making any changes will be shared in the email.
I am considering taking a course in Summer School. How might this impact my course selections?
If a student is considering "reaching ahead" and completing a future compulsory course in summer school (e.g. English, History), we ask them to still submit that compulsory course in their course selections. This ensures the student receives the graduation requirement on their schedule should they later choose not to complete summer school or do not successfully register in the course.
Summer school course offerings and registration typically opens in April. When a student has successfully registered for the summer school course Guidance will contact those students with a process for changing their course selections as necessary. This is typically in May.
If a student is considering an elective course in the summer, a course not needed for graduation, and is confident they will successfully register, they are welcome to omit the course from their course selections. Should the student include the course on their course selections, they can make a change to their course selections after they have enrolled in summer school, typically in May.
