Workplace
Going directly from high school into a workplace opportunity can be a useful option. This means you are focused on earning money and experience in the workplace without a formal post-secondary education.
You might be interested in a skill-based job that doesn’t require education, or are interested in earning money immediately.
Your job may require you to do independent courses to learn some skills or certifications. Examples could include topics such as CPR or Standard First Aid, management, health and safety or procedures.
If you are considering this pathway, you will need to continue to develop your employability skills using your experiences and 6C learning.
Begin to build your network of potential employers.
Consider co-op, volunteering, and/or a part-time job.
Research the job market (mypathwayplanner.yrdsb.ca) .
Craft an effective resume and cover letter (Guidance can help!).
Attend workshops and job fairs.
There are many jobs that do not require formal postsecondary education. Check out the My Pathway Planner to see some different options:

Gap Year
A Gap Year looks different for everyone, but the main similarity is that your Gap Year needs to have PURPOSE. This means you could be:
Learning about life outside of high school.
Exploring your options for postsecondary by developing skills, upgrading your academics, and/or doing more research.
Saving money for your future.
Volunteering at an organization that links with your future.
Trying out a postsecondary course at a college or university.
By taking a GAP YEAR students often feel more dedicated to their future path, as they have taken the time to clarify exactly what they are looking to do. It is also an excellent way to financially prepare for postsecondary!
