International Schools
There is no equivalent to the Ontario Universities' Application Centre (OUAC) for American universities. The closest equivalent is The Common App; students can search if their school of interest accepts applications though The Common App. If not, students will need to complete separate applications for each school, and this usually requires submitting multiple academic transcripts throughout the grade 12 year. Students are responsible to request/collect the required information for the specific application process.
Important Considerations:
Always check that your American university is fully "accredited" (Does it offers degrees that are recognized both in the United States and internationally?).
The ACT (American College Testing) assessment, or "A-C-T" as it is commonly called, is a national admission examination that is required by many American colleges and universities. Check the admissions section on the schools website to see if the ACTs are an admissions requirement.
The SAT Assessment, or "S-A-T" as it is commonly called, is the other national admission examination that is required by many American post secondary schools.
The College Board has a Find a College feature that may help you to explore and narrow your choices.
Many programs require academic transcripts and recommendation letters as part of the admissions process. Pay close attention to timelines and due dates and plan backwards from them. Book an appointment with your Guidance counselor to discuss and request admission documents.
Students are encouraged to do their research to explore the entrance requirements and application process for international schools. Pay close attention to deadlines.
Once your research is complete, book an appointment with your Guidance counselor to review your understanding and make any requests required for your application.
