Celebrating Language, Creativity and School Spirit!
Our French students have been busy taking part in exciting activities that celebrate language learning, creativity, collaboration and school spirit!
Our Grade 10 students had the opportunity to visit Wilfrid Laurier University for World Language Day in October, where they explored the importance of language learning and experienced the many opportunities that studying languages can offer beyond the classroom. In addition they experienced what studying a language at the university level might look like. Students had the chance to sit in on a university-style lecture, giving them a glimpse into the academic experience of post-secondary language studies. This was a valuable opportunity to connect their classroom learning to future possibilities, discover new perspectives and celebrate the importance of multilingualism.
Back at school, our French Council joined forces with the Drama Club and Dance Team to bring some Halloween excitement to the school community by hosting a haunted house! Through teamwork, creativity and plenty of spooky spirit, students worked together to create a fun and memorable experience for their fellow peers.
Finally, our Grade 9 Core French and French Immersion students also took part in an exciting in-school field trip Chef à l’école, providing them with an engaging opportunity to strengthen their language skills and experience French learning in a fun and interactive way. They had the chance to bake while communicating in French and listening to instructions provided by the chef in French. This hands-on experience allowed students to practise their listening and speaking skills in a fun, interactive and authentic setting while discovering that French can be used in everyday activities beyond the classroom.
